8 weeks in wow that's two Februarys. Some might say it's the worst month of the year… I'd say it's up there for the best though. A great week in Guate had a lot of crazy crazy talks with people. I'm trying so hard to learn the language. It's so tough going into people's homes and wanting to be able to share something but not being able to sometimes. You just want to be able to share everything and connect the best you can, but we will get there. It's only a big motivation though so we take it.
On July 14, 2025, Elder Preston Wilde began his two-year missionary service for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This blog is intended for those who want to share his experiences for the next two years as he serves the Lord and the people of the Guatemala Coban/Belize Spanish Speaking Mission.

Week 8 - September 8, 2025
Sweet 15?
Alright the quincineras here are NO joke. I was trying to print pictures of our Savior when allllll of the sudden Vivir mi Vida and Danza Kaduro start bumping in the street. So as anyone would, I turned cause these are bangers. This guy is galloping in with pink smoke cannons painting the street, chocolates, presents, dogs, flowers, tiara, satchel, and is like getting down on one knee singing. Not to mention the fireworks and confetti poppers. I always imagined if I let Queen Wilde throw me a party, this is what it would've looked like. Don't know if I dodged a bullet or missed out anymore. But no, seriously was an experience I won't forget, and I was 20 feet away watching. I can only imagine how she felt. She was crying (I think tears of joy). Truly incredible. I was too invested to take out my phone. I was too scared I would miss something. There's always the big 21 mom dw and we can go crazy for this one πππππ. Because I'm a missionary I have to clarify that this is a joke. More of an Agua pura guy anyway.
Benancio
Alright this guy we taught a lesson to and wow was this one a Rollercoaster. It was about 5 lessons too. We were talking for 3 hours (me about 2 minutes). But basically, this guy lives in BFE so we took a 45-minute bus ride there. We got there and he was super interested then we start talking to him and he whips out 3 Bibles one he wrote, one apostate, and another normal. I just looked over at my comp. Now it didn't cease, it only got crazier. He proceeded to say he believed in Jehovah but not Jesus. Apparently, Jesus is a code name for suffering. Then he said Jesus did not in fact go on the cross. He said this while wearing a cross. And he said we all have a third eye and if we pray long enough it will appear on our forehead. Also said that we are all just frequencies and sound waves… I'm barely even scratching the surface there was much more said. He diddd pull up to church tho. To add on to this it was dumping rain on our bus ride back and there was a massive tree in the middle of the road so after 30 minutes of machete work, we were able to start going again. That night we were also walking to visit a family and this 70-pound pure muscle pit bull (I'm also one of those adjectives I'll let you decide) tried darting out at us and if it wasn't for the chain I think I might've died.
DOGS
This brings me to my next point: there are dogs everywhere. Everywhere and some of them are really nice but some just go nuts every time they see you. I feel really bad for the puppies here tho because if a kid gets ahold of one of them… cooked. I watched a kid throw around the dog from How To Lose a Guy In 10 Days like a freaking jump rope. I kid you not. After the roller-coaster of his life, he was then placed on the highest part of the house and was stuck. It was truly wild. Was really feeling for the guy. He was begging for his life but for good reason. It's a good thing we stopped the kid from grabbing the sling shot, too…
Rosa/Juan
Now Rosa is a member in Cobulco and she's a goat. Went and got us chao mien and wow was that fire. But what followed Rosa was insane. After finishing talks w Rosa we said hi to this guy and I'm gonna be honest forgot his name cause the story was too crazy so we r just gonna say Juan. But Juan just starts bawling, crying, and talking to us. Turns out Juan has recently done some crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy things. But yeah we are trying to tell him little by little you can change and we are sending him a scripture a day. We really do think he is trying to be better, but wow was it a heavy hitter to hear.
SOME POSITIVES!!!!
CHOCOLATE BANANAS AND KUNG FU PANDA ICE CREAMS. Look these bring light to my day every time. For only 50 cents, too. They are just absolutely unreal. The KFP IC is cookies and cream with a chocolate shell and is unreal. And the chocolate bananas for just 1-2 quetz or like 15 cents… can't even explain. Also, we got a Bappy lined up for Sunday shoutout Oscar. I think we might get a couple more this week too feeling good feeling like things are lining up. Our Zone is currently going crazy w baptisms we are def leading the mission. I think we have 20 across our 4 areas in the first week and a half. Time for Rabinal to start adding more. I've also been kinda the goat of Journaling since I got here. I haven't missed a night. Will this persist… I'm not sure.
Spiritual Thought
(Life thought I guess)
One thing I have already quickly come to find is how astronomical an attitude is. It's something I knew before but I am only getting to figure it out more. As a trainee out here in the field I'm really just a penguin from Madagascar. Smile and Wave Boys Smile and Wave. This really is me. But I have been learning so much about the importance of attitude. It really all starts in your head. When you put your mind to what you want or put your mind to what you have to be positive about in a situation, things follow. Now this is true in the mission and just as true in life. Take the positives and run with them. Even the smallest wins can be game changers. When you take a situation and think about all you have to be positive for, everything else fades, the hard days go by a little faster, and you start to be a little happier. When you focus on the more important things in life and not the things of the world you truly begin to see why these should be your priorities. In 3 Nephi 13:21 we read, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Put your priorities to that which are eternal not temporal, and you will start to see the blessings that come with it. You get to decide what your priorities are and where these are, your heart will be also.
It's already so apparent I am where I'm supposed to be and even more incredible to see the love people can have for a kid that can barely even talk to them. Big shout outs to Christian mission call to Brazil and Talia to San Diego ARABIC speaking!!!
I love you all so much!
