Zone Conference
Started the week out with Zone Conference in Senahu. Now this is literally Jumanji IRL. It's actually insane. When I was told about my mission, this is exactly what I thought and more. It's crazy, too, because nobody there speaks Spanish. They all speak K'eqchi. But you're literally in the middle of the forest in some of the biggest mountains I've ever seen. There are 3 K'eqchi Zones in the mish out of 8 I think so if you ever see an email titled something to do with Jumanji just now, I'm cooked and send prayers. Yet again won't know what they are saying and will be walking 4 hours to the closest member. But anyways Zone Conference. Had some fire pancakes to start it off. Then had a lot of lessons. Too many tbh. Just like 4 hours of lessons. Got to talk to President a little bit. Sat next to him at lunch and did save a glass from falling. Called me Spider Man. The only downside of Zone Conference; however, was that it was 5 hours there 5 hours back… Lethallllll. It was still cool to see everything though.
Pictures
I have never ever had so many people wanting to take a picture with me. It was honestly crazy. It's their Independence Day today and so all this week they have been doing stuff and dressing up and I think during this special time they want to take a picture with the gringos. And not to say I'm some giant but here I am. It's easy to spot the tall blonde hair gringo from about anywhere. I think I need to start charging them money for each picture. Could buy a lot of choco Bananos with that.
Hermana Rosa
Alright she's actually the goat. Every single time I talk to her she just hypessss me up. Every single time I talk it's, “Elderrrr your Spanish is getting so much better” or “Elder, that is just amazing thank you so much”. I might just start referring to her as my Guatemalan Grandma. Also we went to her house and she gave us probably the best tres leches and fruit cake of all time. It was actually unreal. And then she's also making my comp and I ties so I'm hyped for that.

So as I mentioned before it is their Independence Day. I honestly feel bad they will never be able to have an experience like a true American 4th of July. Truly the best day of the year. I just want to walk down the streets BLASTING Courtesy of the Red White and Blue. That song gets me going. But Saturday night we went to some stake activity for Independence Day. LITTTTTLE did I know my comp and I were going to be opening acts for the activity. Dancing… they call us up and I'm like uhhh, Elder, what's going on. Humbling. It was truly humbling. It might be a worse video than Greatest Showman IYKYK ππππππ. But we made it and had a lot of food after. AND to bring my confidence back up I was talking to this lady for a while and she asked me how long I had in the mission, and I told her to tell me what she thought. When I heard her say one year, I think I could've gone out on the dance floor for 30 more minutes. This one was a big win. Very big.
Escuela
The school deserves its own section because there was genuinely so much going on. We are walking by this school and these kids are begging us to come in. So we do. They are having a fiesta in there and are literally just handing us so much food. I think we had 50 kids just following us everywhere we went and the other 200 were all just watching us. They have an English teacher there, too, and bro was trying to hide from us. He wassss not about to talk to the gringos. But again every single kid is coming up to me and comparing their height it's so funny. Sometimes they will ask how tall I am and I'll tell them and they will just be shoooook. The best is when they ask me to speak English. They all start going freaking crazy. But because they all are obsessed with us, we are planning to just give a hugeeeee lesson to all of them and their families. If we can pull thru w this… Boutta go crazy with the Bappys. Xucoc and Buena Vista aren't ready.
JalΓ³n (someone lets you hop in their car)
So middle of Sunday we were packing up to go to Salama for pday. We go outside and there is not a single car. It's dumping rain, streets are popping with people. The final bus we were looking for was already gone and buses weren't going the next day. In others words we were looking pretty cooked. We kept asking for rides but nothing was going. We were about to quit when all the sudden we got a ride. Now not only did we get a ride but we got a ride insideeee a car inside a very nice truck. Keep in mind it's dumping outside and would've probably been in the trunk bed in the dumping rain if we even got a ride. So clutch. We then got to Salama and the ZLs weren't there so we couldn't get in the house. When this non-member who knows missionaries really well and his daughter start talking to us and invite us into their house. And just when you thought things couldn't get better. They are freaking loaded and have unreal couches. And all I'll say is somehow Netflix got turned on by them and I had to watch cause they asked us to. But wow was that Canelo vs Crawford fight insane. Grateful π.
Spiritual Thought
So with it being the Independence Day I have been thinking a lot about the 4th of July. And a lot about music. And a lot of other things but weeee will focus on the music cause this is what I'm going to relate haha. One song that I have thought a lot about and brings me back is by Hermano Green (Riley Green). And one song in particular, among many, is "Jesus Saves." Now I'm going to have to go off memory here so sorry if I mess up a couple times, but here are the lyrics.
There was a man I used to pass, on my way into town he was covered in dirt like the world had beat him down. I often wondered how he ended up like that. So one day driving home I pulled over to ask. I said man where'd it all go wrong. He said son do you really want to know.... He said, I lost my job down at the mill when that factory closed, Army quit sending me those checks, the bank took everything I owned, hitch hiked my way up to Chicago, the nights were too danG cold, I hopped a train and headed west cause there was nowhere else to go. Hard to see all of that when you're driving by. So I just write down Jesus Saves cause there ain't no way I could fit that on a sign.
Other than this being such an unreal song, the meaning makes it even more elite. You never truly know what someone is going through. There is so much more to a person than you could ever know. Always be kind because you truly never know. The song also reminds me of the story of the woman who is being stoned due to her transgression. They tell the Savior that due to her having transgressed, she must be stoned. Where he responds in John 8:7
7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
Often in my life I have noticed I can be quick to make decisions about others. I sometimes come to the mindset that due to what others have done or what I have heard I am better than them. But this story is such a good reminder. We all mess up, we all make mistakes, and none of us are perfect. Look for the better in people before looking towards the bad. Nobody is better than the next. You never know someone's entire story and what got them to the point they are at. It's not about where someone is at or where you are at, solely where you are going. You just cant fit all that on a sign π€·♂️π€·♂️π€·♂️.
I also want the people that send me an email every week to know you're actually the best ever and you have no idea how much it means to me. I wish I could respond to all of you. But know I appreciate it so much.
I love you all
Elder Wilde
